TIER Wraps Up Successful Legislative Session

The 2009 Texas Legislature passed landmark reforms in K-12 public education standards and accountability, career and technology education, and teacher quality and performance. These reforms, which are outlined below, will reestablish Texas as a national leader in standards and accountability-based public education reform.

According to many seasoned observers, these enhancements would not have happened without the work of TIER and, in fact and in all humility, given the forces arrayed in opposition, it is likely that the education reform movement would have taken several steps backward if not for our work.

First, TIER took the lead by organizing and leading the Texas Coalition for a Competitive Workforce. Then, along with our coalition partners, TIER pushed for the following principles to be included in HB3— the omnibus education accountability bill:
