Accountability
This week, HB 3, by Representative Eissler, and SB 3, by Senator Shapiro, were unanimously approved by their respective houses on Thursday. The Senate added 8 amendments to SB 3. While many were technical corrections, the following additions were made:
- Students will be required to complete a total of four semesters of fine arts courses in grades 6-8;
- The TEA shall use the new rules for interventions and sanctions in the bill immediately upon the bill’s passage;
- Application of the college-readiness standards is pushed back one year and will apply in the 2012-2013 school year; and
- District grading policies must be based on a student’s mastery of the assignment and may not require that a student receive a set minimum grade without regard to the student’s quality of work.
