House Committees Named, Meetings to Begin Soon

Speaker Joe Straus just released House committee assignments. As expected, Rep. Rob Eissler was renamed as Chairman. He is joined by Reps. Scott Hochberg (Vice-Chair), Alma Allen, Jimmie Don Aycock, Harold Dutton, Joe Farias, Jim Jackson, Dora Olivo, Diane Patrick, Mark Shelton, and Randy Weber. The committee has a slight, 6-5 Republican majority.

In addition to the House Public Education committee, a new committee—the House Committee on Technology, Economic Development, and the Workforce—was created. It is possible that this committee will consider issues relating to career and technology education and adult education programs, but we will not know specifics until we see which bills are referred to the committee.

Committee appointees are Reps. Mark Strama (Chair), Tan Parker (Vice-Chair), Fred Brown, Angie Chen Button, Rob Eissler, Dan Gattis, Patricia Harless, Allan Ritter, and Eddie Rodriguez. Republicans have a 6-3 majority on this committee. Now that committees have been named in both chambers, expect them to begin taking testimony on bills as early as next week.
